Leadership Styles
Autocratic:
This is when a leader of a team dictates the way in which certain procedures are carried out. They decide the goals that they are to achieve by directing and controlling all activities without any external input. A famous autocratic leader would be Jose Mourinho as he is a football manager and has to make clear objectives of what he wants to achieve by a certain time. This could be to win a league game against Arsenal or to win the Premier League.

Democratic:
This is when a leader of a team uses external input from every individual that is involved. This makes the decision making easier when determining with what needs to be done. The leader has the final decision. A famous democratic leader would be David Leadbetter, who is a top golf instructor. As this isn't a contact or a team sport there doesn't need to be much element of leadership and relies mainly on the individual. With a golf instructor they will discuss the possible situation and what club to use for different shots but the leader (David Leadbetter) will make the final decision.

Transactional:
This is when a leader of a team whereby they set clear objectives and goals in order for the team to follow as well as the uses of punishments or rewards to encourage them to carry out the goals. A famous transactional would be a rugby coach such as Warren Gatland because he will have a set goal and objectives that they will win the Lions tour 2013. Every team has clearly outlined the objectives and goals for the season and will train to hopefully reach that set objectives and goals of winning the season and the cup.

Transformational:
This is when a leader of a team creates a clear view of what they need to do through inspiration and excites the team in a motivational way to commit them to the fullest. A very good example of a transformational leader is John Hart. he was the coach of the All Blacks and created a 15 step process to the 'winning edge'. He would motivate the All Blacks rugby team using this process and pumping them up before each game.

Laissez-faire:
This is when a leader of a team help or tries encourage their team the least they can, as they want them to complete the task or goals on their own. They believe that people will excel when left to their own responsibilities and obligations. A famous coach that would obtain a Laissez-faire leadership style is Béla Károlyi. He is a famous Romanian gymnastics. After coaching the different routines to the gymnast he would then leave them on their own and only observe them carry out the routines. This is so that the gymnast would be able to chose the correct routine that they feel confident with. Also this is because the gymnast will already have the skills that they need for the routine but will have to practice the linking between moves.

Task-Orientated:
This is when a leader of a team only focuses on getting the job and is more like an autocratic in some forms. They know exactly what they need to do and will define the work, role, and structure and plan what is needed to complete the task. An example of this would be Roy Keane who was the captain of the Manchester United Team. He is a good example because he wouldn't hold a relationship with his teammates and would focus solely on his skill assets and the overall goal of winning the premiership.

People-Orientated:
This is when a leader of a team focuses on supporting and developing the relationship between their team. This style is to encourage good teamwork and create a friendly and approachable relationship with the team. This will make everyone more comfortable when working or completing the tasks/goals. Mr Neil Picknel at South Island School is a people-orientated leader because he chooses the team based on the turn out to the training sessions. For example he would cut the players that don't turn up to training and expect to play and play the participants who turned up to trainings. This would focus on the development of the players that turn up and craft them to become a good team. He put the task and goal at risk to develop the players.

This is when a leader of a team uses an old style of doing things and emphasizes procedures even though they may not be useful. They will attempt to solve all types of problems by using control and their powers come from controlling the information flow.

My Results:I feel that I am a democratic leader over the autocratic and laissez-faire leader. This is because I find it easier to come up with a decision after I have listened collectively about everyones ideas and how they feel for each idea that everyone has come up with. Using this information I would make a decision whereby it would suit everyones needs. This is because after finding out everyone's opinions and ideas I will withdraw aspects from every idea and make it into one. Then I would give each subordinate their own section to work on (I would let them work on the section of the master idea where their aspect is).
